Sweet and Simple Hair Love
My grandmother has always said "your hair is your crown". It is one of the first things somebody notices about a person. In most cases, even if your face is hidden, even if your back is turned your hair is still greeting the world.
However, it's not that easy for everyone to take care of their hair. In our influencer heavy, money over everything era the pressure to be perfect is real. Our feeds are endlessly being swamped with new gadgets that will give you that beautiful Instagram baddie hair. In the pursuit of perfection, we leave out real care and hair love-and a bit of our sanity as well.
As we have seen in internet cancellations sagas, a particular curl company has been called out for causing baldness with the heavy oils they use in their products; essentially, a company jumping on the natural/curly hair bandwagon- being 'kitch' and not careful.
You don't need to be rich to love your crown, heck, every grandmother has a story of using some kind of leftover to make their hair shiny and bouncy. All you need is a little bit of know-how and genuine Hair Love- love for your hair.
It's what's on the inside that counts so let's start with the basics. Hair is comprised of keratin. keratin is created, in short, by proteins and amino acids. The easiest way to make sure your body is getting what it needs to maintain its most beautiful mane is to make sure you are getting enough variety in your diet. In recent months we have had food shortages and getting those extra vitamins may not be possible. A quick and effective way to promote good hair health is taking a hair focused multi-vitamin such as Hair Love gummies, which will help give your body that extra oomph it needs to your hair more life.
Moving to the outside, using a satin or silk bonnet can do wonders for your hair. Cotton is more porous and absorbent than silk or satin. Because of this, as you sleep it will drink up all of the good oils in your hair and skin. While you toss and turn your pillows are essentially wiping off all the hard work you put into your nighttime routine and wasting product you put in your hair. Enter the bonnet! This baby will create a protective barrier that will save you time, money and energy. An added bonus for those of us who have hair that is prone to breakage and dryness, introducing a bonnet will help keep hair strong hydrated and healthy.
Now for styling- one of my favourite things, so easy and yet so hard! I don't know about you ladies but I am a sucker for a good scrunchie. How many times have you taken your hair down and found strands of hair on your hair tie? Most hair elastics pinch and snap our hair as we move throughout the day. Even someone like me who has dreads still has this issue. Scrunchies are great because they can pull the hair tight without causing unnecessary breakage and make any everyday style look super cute. Hungover and just woke up in the same tracksuit you wore yesterday? Add a scrunchie to your hair and you got a messy bun made for Rodeo Starbucks. You know you have done this!
In short, loving your hair is more than just buying expensive oils and trendy products. It is starting simple and accentuating what you like. Put your fingers in your trusses, feel your strands from root to tip, is your shaft thin or thick (...whew is it getting hot in here or is it just me?). If ever you get overwhelmed with your hair just remember what my grandmother said "start with your crown work your way down, everything will be safe and sound"
